Cebu Pacific resumes flights to and from Caticlan

Cebu Pacific (CEB) will resume flights to and from Caticlan, the jump off point to the world's famous tropical destination the beach paradise of Boracay!!!

By March 1, flights will be redirected from Kalibo to Caticlan (4 flights from Manila and 1 from Cebu daily) both in the province of Aklan, and by March 28, full operation will be resumed with 11 Manila-Caticlan and 1 Cebu-Caticlan flights daily!

Passengers for the following Kalibo flights are requested to call the CEB reservation hotline (02) 7020-888 or (032) 230-888 for updates on their flight schedules:

• March 1-27- passengers on 5J 351/352, 333/334, 335/336, 341/342 and 416/417

• March 8-27- passengers on 5J 331/332, 337/338, 353/354

• March 25-27- passengers on 5J 343/344

3 million tourists visit RP in 2009

Three million tourists from abroad will have visited the country by the end of the year.

Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Payabyab said there could have been a lot more but for the global recession that is just beginning to wane.

According to Payabyab, the Department of Tourism (DOT) originally targeted five million foreign tourists. The lower projection, he explained, was due “to the contraction of outbound tourist traffic in our usual market, particularly Japan and Korea.

“The increased arrivals from China and Taiwan have enabled the country to make up for the loss,” he said.

He acknowledged that the severe typhoons had a negative effect, on the tourism industry.

“Baguio City, for instance, lost over 2,000 domestic tourists since it had to forego hosting the Advertising Congress because of the floodings and landslides,” he said.

He pointed out that most foreign tourists plan their visit months in advance. Thus, he added, the Maguindanao massacre in November could not have stopped those who had already booked their flights.

“But it may have discouraged those who were still planning their vacations,” he said.

He congratulated the media for the positive role they play in the tourism industry. From their reports, he said, foreign tourists learn where these violent incidents occur, and they are able to avoid these places.

He said that DoT keeps assuring visitors that the country’s popular destinations remain safe.

Also, Payabyab said, domestic tourism received a boost from the so-called holiday economics. He explained that the President always cluster holidays, and that enables workers to plan their vacations around the long weekends.

Among domestics tourists, Cebu City is the most visited destination, with Camarines Sur coming in second. In fact, the Bicol province was number one, with over one million local tourists recorded in the first nine months.

The third most favored destination is Baguio City and the rest of the Cordillera Autonomous Region.

Other favorites are Bohol and Palawan, which both achieved double digit growth in domestic tourism. (Story courtesy of PNA)

CEB offers peak season travel tips to passengers

The Philippines’ leading airline, Cebu Pacific (CEB) gives travel reminders to its passengers for the holiday season.

“Now that we are in the peak of peak of travel seasons, we have a few friendly reminders and travel tips for our guests to ensure a stress-free and truly enjoyable trip on board Cebu Pacific,” said CEB VP for Marketing and Distribution Candice Iyog.

AT THE CHECK-IN COUNTER

1. Check in for the flight as early as possible. CEB counters will close 45 minutes before the estimated time of departure so please be at the airport at least 2 hours before your flight.

2. In case the passenger arrives at Terminal 3 one hour before the flight, immediately inform CEB personnel. It will always be recommended to check in as early as possible to avoid the stress this may cause. Remember, there will be a lot of people traveling and security checks will take longer.

3. Those with no check-in luggage for domestic flights can fall in line at the Express Counter.

4. Be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before the flight’s published time of departure.

5. Guests on international flights will still have to clear immigration, so please make sure to check-in early, even earlier than the suggested 2 hours before the flight’s departure time.

ABOUT AIRPORT AND SECURITY

6. Bring in advance the exact amount of the terminal fee in the airport of origin.

7. Refrain from wrapping gifts in metallic foil since this makes the gift appear solid during security screening and can cause delays due to security checks.

8. The final security check will require guests to remove shoes, belts with metal buckles, and coins, among others. So wear shoes that are easy to remove, and, if possible, refrain from wearing belts.

ABOUT LUGGAGE

9. Remember that CEB allows only one hand carry bag (maximum weight is 7 kilos) and gives passengers free 15 kilos baggage allowance (except for Clark which gives 30 kilos). Weigh the luggage in advance so there will be no surprises. If the passenger intends to bring more than 15kgs, remember to bring extra pocket money to settle excess baggage fees.

10. Fix loose straps and broken locks to avoid luggage problems.

11. Place identifying markers on the bag to easily differentiate it from everyone else’s.

FOR CONNECTING FLIGHTS

12. Allot at least two hours between connecting flights so there is more time to get the luggage and check it in again.

CEB flies to 32 domestic and 14 international destinations, using the youngest aircraft fleet in the country.
